The Beam of Light

I was a beam of light that cut through the blackness.

I was a beam of light that cowered your darkness.

Lit like a lighthouse, I stood on a hill, protected by the grace of a shallow cove, a fortress that only you could know.

If you only knew where to look, which way to swim… before you drowned, got caught by a hook;

known I could be seen through the galleons of the heartless…

Gentle you must sail over waters so treacherous.

Easy it is for flimsy boats to topple over and sink.

But know my smile remains, through thick and thin: shining like a diamond piercing through the night—my eyes, glittering, having been loaned a twinkle of the stars’ light, my soul soaring over you like a phoenix breaking free from the shackles of life’s plight.

So I sing to you now, on this silent night.

Lullabies of comfort, dreams, and light,

No more nightmares.

No more fires.

No more terror.

No chest shuttered in by fright.

As I graze gently, upon your soft dewy cheek.

As your chest begins to slowly soften when you drift into the night.

You remember that my light—my light, will never leave you, if you just remember to keep me in your sight.
