I had been paddling all night,
when I suddenly saw the sun’s light.
The icy winds were defrosted by its gentle warmth.
Waves of oxygen evaporated from the salty waters of the sea below.
I looked to the right of me just as soon as the sun’s first rays shined across the left half of my blistered face.
The light, lit my eyes on fire, quickly turning into a raging blaze.
My hair, gently rustled with the wind.
I looked to the right and saw you sitting there, cross-legged next to me.
The white robes I had clothed you in, caught the wind like sails.
Your body rocked back and forth as the waves carried the raft up, and then brought you down.
Your face quickly illuminated when you caught me turning to look over at you.
Your lips shortly thereafter curved into the most beautiful and primal smile I had ever seen.
A smile that reverberated true liberation. A free spirit. A being that possessed such a depth to his consciousness, words always fell short.
Depth, that transcended the linear strings that time traveled on.
Depth, that broke my vision into fractals, a kaleidoscope of colors, a symphony of sounds, a garden with a thousand flowers—each carrying with them a unique yet soothing fragrance.
My soul soared up into the clouds.
I soared like a bird, freed from its cage.
I pierced through the clouds to bask in the delight of the morning sun in all of its intensity.
I allowed the light to penetrate my cells, vibrate, tingle, transform, transmit healing energy and provide nourishment to my body.
From this moment on,
I allowed the light in.
From above I saw us on the raft. Stranded in the middle of the ocean.
Not knowing where we were headed, only that we would be heading there together.
It wouldn’t matter if that meant we would be swallowed by a tsunami, bludgeoned by lightning, battered by pillars of sharp rocks, or pillaged by pirates.
The look I saw in your eyes that day.
That look….
could never be taken away.
